A slice of bread begins its life not as bread, but as grain, water, salt, oil, and yeast. These have to be prepared and eventually baked.
Once the bread is baked, a slice may be cut – and a new SLICE of BREAD is born to the world.
A slice usually has a very short life span. It can be toasted and sweetened with jams or honey, or made to a sandwich, with tasty ingredients adorning its surface. It is often then consumed by a hungry person.
If a slice of bread is simply left, it will attract microscopic bacteria that will soon begin to grow into.... mould.
